Long walks on the beach may be a hackneyed activity but there's a reason it's a favorite for so many. This long sandy beach is just a few steps from my current hideaway and I love walking there on a foggy or sunny day. It's always exciting to watch the waves crashing and the shorebirds having a feast. You can keep on strolling down to Morro Rock and see the adorable sea otters too!
Take a walk and discover these secret courtyards called "hofjes" in Amsterdam's Jordaan neighborhood. Originally built as housing for retired nuns, widows and older single women, these charming houses surrounding courtyard gardens are wonderful places to sneak a peak. Some of them are now home to music students and artists and you may even catch a concert or open atelier on your stroll. A few of my favorite hofjes are pictured! :)
This gorgeous area on the Southern California coast is home to some of the rarest pine trees in the world. It's a wonderful place for a walk, either on the bluff trails or along the beach.
This place is special to me because yes, I am a banana slug! I went to university in Santa Cruz and lived there a few years after as well. There is lots to do in this cute town - hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and surfing. Of course you can also relax on the beach or ride the Giant Dipper rollercoaster at the Boardwalk. There are also lots of tasty eats in town which I didn't include on this map. I guess I need to do another one! :)
This place is special to me because it's my secret winter escape. OK, maybe not so secret as thousands of snowbirds have discovered it as well. I love Tucson not only for the fun breweries, tasty eats, farmers markets, cool shops, and fascinating historical sights but the city is surrounded by nature. To the north you can hike at Catalina State Park and Sabino Canyon, to the east and west you'll find both sections of Saguaro National Park. When hiking you may be surprised to find the desert teems with life like hummingbirds, phainopeplas, hawks, roadrunners, ringtail cats and javelinas. The cactus wren pictured here is the state bird of Arizona. Hope you like my map! :) Come explore the desert!
The charming town of Stratford-Upon-Avon is the birthplace of Shakespeare and home to many historic buildings. Take a walking tour to see these important sights! Spring is a wonderful time to visit as many beautiful bulbs are in bloom!
Haarlem is a charming city just a few minutes by train from Amsterdam. And there is plenty to discover. Visit a museum, explore cute hofjes or take a tour of the windmill. Go for a wander in the nearby Zuid Kennemerland National Park, then be sure to have a tasty craft beer at Jopenkerk or Het Uiltje Bar. Hope you enjoy this little map. The famous university town of Oxford is a wonderful place to visit. Here are a few of my favorite things to do there. The many (free!) museums are excellent places to spend some time, and if the weather is jolly then a trip to the botanic garden or a boat ride on the river Isis is a great idea. Portugal is a beautiful and fascinating country with delicious cuisine. Here are a few foods and drinks you should try when traveling in Portugal. Ginjinha is a fantastic cherry liquour, bifana is a tasty pork sandwich, caldo verde is a hearty soup and pasteis de nata is a scrumptious sweet pastry. These are just a few of the yummy treats to taste in Portugal!
