This map is special to me because it's where I have lived for the past 25 years. Weehawken, NJ is on the western shore of the Hudson River. It has a homey small-town feeling, plus easy access to NYC. Perched at the top of a cliff, with red-tail hawks circling above, Weehawken has a magnificent view of the Manhattan skyline, and is known for being the site of the famous duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. Its historic water tower, inspired by the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, glows red at sunset, and can be seen from my front porch. Among its many grand Victorian homes, Weehawken's public library stands out for its beautiful restoration, including stained glass windows and cozy reading turrets. People enjoy the waterfront for dining, recreation and relaxation, as well as a short commute by ferry to the city.
I chose to share my favorite places. It is a superb region, often compared to Ireland hence its nickname of Little Ireland. For my part it makes me think of the landscapes of Brittany. Produced as part of the Nate Padavick course for Sketch Book Skool
L'Ile des Embiez is a small island in the South of France, in the Var (83) département.
It's a place I've often visited as a child and that I re-discovered in my mid 20s. This is one of my favourite places on earth, it features beautiful beaches, pine forests, an aquarium presenting local marine life and has it's own vineyards.
This map celebrates l'Ile des Embiez in pure analog medium: paper, ink and watercolour.
Nara, a city near Kyoto, is a perfect city for day-trip. As Japan's capital city during Nara Period, it contains many historical Buddhism temples (including Todaiji - world's largest wooden building). Deer wander freely around near Nara Park.
Tourists usually arrive at one of the railway stations (JR or Kintetsu), and then walk around the east part of the city to visit temples and deers. There are some Nara foods along the way.
