Misty’s Chincoteague, Virginia by Gina Lento
Port St Lucie, FL, USChincoteague is a magical place for those who have read the beloved story, “Misty of Chincoteague.” The original illustrations were done by one of my personal favorite illustrators, Wesley Dennis. Wesley brought the story of Misty to life. I grew up with those illustrations and when I visited Chincoteague for the first time, I felt like I had been there many times before. I have painted in many plein air events in Chincoteague and I feel that I know these islands pretty well. When it came to doing this map, it was a personal goal to convey my love of this special place.

A Summer in Ålem, Småland by Theresa Grieben
Berlin, Berlin, DEI always dreamt of going to Sweden and the summer before last I had the chance to spend one month as an artist-in-residence in a charming villa in Ålem, a small town between Stockholm and Kalmar in Småland, South Sweden. Almost everyday I took my sketchbook and an old green bicycle to ride around the fields and forests in the company of sheep, cattle, horses and elks. I was especially in love with Strömsrum, a tiny settlement of wooden houses with an idyllic setting over the Alsterå river. I discovered it by chance and was impressed by the large manor house dating from the 17th century, which was entirely made of wood. I went on to Pataholm at the Kalmar Strait coast, which looks like a picture book village taken directly from an Astrid Lindgren novel, with small wooden houses painted in fox red, a dreamy harbor and a charming café. I’ve tried all the bicycle routes, cafés and swimming spots myself and have captured my travel memories with this map – if you ever come to Småland you should have a visit!

City of Kecskemét, Hungary by Judit Zengővári
Kecskemét, HUThis place is special to me because I moved here 4 months ago and I always loved this city. Kecskemét is a small town near to the capital, Budapest. I wanted to catch the main character of the city and draw the most iconic stuffes on it. Kecske means goat and the symbol of the city surprisingly is a goat. You can find beautfiful art deco bulidings with cermic decoration. Kecskemét is a very artistic town, many amazing artists came from here, for example Zoltán Kodály, the amazing musucan. The National Ceramist Studio is also takes place here, and the Kecskemét Film aNimation studio, where many amazing movies had been made.

Breathtaking Batanes by Faith Dolot
Manila, PHThis place is special to me because my mother grew up here and we’ve spent almost every summer here since I was a little kid. Located in the northernmost part of the Philippines, Batanes is the smallest province and is known as “Paradise of the North” because of it’s picture-perfect sceneries. It is also popular for being a frequent destination for typhoons, it’s stone houses made of limestones, a shop that runs on people’s honesty (people pay through a drop box) and a lot more.

Visit Austin, MN in 1921 by Rebecca Silus
Minneapolis, USThis place is special to me because it's where my great aunt Hazel lived in 1921 when she was 19 years old. During that year, she ran a beauty salon and kept a journal of her life in town. Through my research using newspapers from the day and stories from the journal, I’ve gotten to know the town pretty well. These are my recommendations if you visit Austin, MN in 1921—sorry, I’m still trying to locate the speakeasies.

A Weekend of Sunshine in Folkestone, Kent, UK by Mel Smith Designs
Kent, --, GBThis is my 'happy place' - Folkestone, off the South East coast of Kent, UK. It is such a vibrant hub of creativity and nature combined. You can stroll along the Leas overlooking the sea, or wind down through the pathways to the walk along the sea front. You can visit the Harbour Arm to listen to live music, sip a cocktail, eat from a variety of food trucks or just take in the view over the Harbour. Oh the Harbour! Watch the boats bobbing whilst walking over the disused but renovated railway track, with the beautiful cliffs setting the backdrop. Peruse the independent shops all along The Old High Street and shop at the local markets, and end the day watching a play at the Leas Cliff Hall. I have been visiting ever since I was little'un and it just keeps getting better. Every time I go there I just feel any worries washing away and I feel totally relaxed. It really is my special Happy Place.
