As my years of university passed by so fast, I wanted to honor some of my favourite places in Chapel Hill. I've laughed, cried, explored, pulled all-nighters, worked, and ate my way through this city, and am happy to be able to call it my home.
This place is special to me because I now call it home. Two years ago we moved from the city of Bordeaux, to this golden sweet wine producing region of France where the fall morning mist causes the grapes to have “noble rot”, creating a high concentration of sugar in the grapes before they’re picked and made into wine. The landscapes are beautiful here. Sauternes is home to Chateau Yquem, a wine so special, that it’s the only Premier Grand Cru classé “Superior” in the world.
This is one of my favorite places I vacationed in style with my dog. Carmel by the sea is super pet friendly and always beautiful. There are many places to walk, eat, hike, shop and explore. Your furry friend is even welcome to swim and run on the beach. It is priced on the high side but worth it! It's very relaxing and full of culture, too!
This place is special to me because I used to come here for vacations when I was a child and now I get to live here. Portsmouth exudes an enchanting, magical quality that is rooted in it’s historic and seafaring past and is elevated by the current artistic and culinary community.
This place is special to me because these are all of my favorite hiding spots during the cold months of winter. My map is filled with some of my very favorite comfort foods and places to stop for a tea or coffee. I also like visiting the botanical center or Jordan's Jungles so I can start dreaming of spring and what I will plant in my garden.
Chincoteague is a magical place for those who have read the beloved story, “Misty of Chincoteague.” The original illustrations were done by one of my personal favorite illustrators, Wesley Dennis. Wesley brought the story of Misty to life. I grew up with those illustrations and when I visited Chincoteague for the first time, I felt like I had been there many times before. I have painted in many plein air events in Chincoteague and I feel that I know these islands pretty well. When it came to doing this map, it was a personal goal to convey my love of this special place.
This place is special to me because I get to live here! I originally came here from the prairies and was meant to stay for only three months. That was over 20 years ago! I love the mountains, trees, ocean, wildlife...I even love the rain! This place is paradise to me and I can't imagine living anywhere else.
This place is special to me because I grew up driving to these places on the weekend. Each places has memories of delicious food like fresh baked bread, oysters and crab. There are beautiful natural landscapes of redwood forests, rolling golden hills, and views of the sea. These places on this map are the places I take people who visit and are the places I love to show off.
I always dreamt of going to Sweden and the summer before last I had the chance to spend one month as an artist-in-residence in a charming villa in Ålem, a small town between Stockholm and Kalmar in Småland, South Sweden. Almost everyday I took my sketchbook and an old green bicycle to ride around the fields and forests in the company of sheep, cattle, horses and elks. I was especially in love with Strömsrum, a tiny settlement of wooden houses with an idyllic setting over the Alsterå river. I discovered it by chance and was impressed by the large manor house dating from the 17th century, which was entirely made of wood. I went on to Pataholm at the Kalmar Strait coast, which looks like a picture book village taken directly from an Astrid Lindgren novel, with small wooden houses painted in fox red, a dreamy harbor and a charming café. I’ve tried all the bicycle routes, cafés and swimming spots myself and have captured my travel memories with this map – if you ever come to Småland you should have a visit!
This place is special to me because I moved here 4 months ago and I always loved this city. Kecskemét is a small town near to the capital, Budapest. I wanted to catch the main character of the city and draw the most iconic stuffes on it. Kecske means goat and the symbol of the city surprisingly is a goat. You can find beautfiful art deco bulidings with cermic decoration. Kecskemét is a very artistic town, many amazing artists came from here, for example Zoltán Kodály, the amazing musucan. The National Ceramist Studio is also takes place here, and the Kecskemét Film aNimation studio, where many amazing movies had been made.
This place is special to me because my mother grew up here and we’ve spent almost every summer here since I was a little kid. Located in the northernmost part of the Philippines, Batanes is the smallest province and is known as “Paradise of the North” because of it’s picture-perfect sceneries. It is also popular for being a frequent destination for typhoons, it’s stone houses made of limestones, a shop that runs on people’s honesty (people pay through a drop box) and a lot more.
This place is special to me because it's where my great aunt Hazel lived in 1921 when she was 19 years old. During that year, she ran a beauty salon and kept a journal of her life in town. Through my research using newspapers from the day and stories from the journal, I’ve gotten to know the town pretty well. These are my recommendations if you visit Austin, MN in 1921—sorry, I’m still trying to locate the speakeasies.
This place is special to me because this is where I've grown up! Kampung inggris is a village with hundreds of english language courses. Thousands of people every year. Many english learner from the basic level to the mastery level in there. The fun method used creates a comfortable atmosphere, so people will feel at home studying there. You can explore local places by using a rented bicycle. You have to spend for 2 weeks to 6 months. In the end they will get new experiences
This place is special to me because San Felice Circeo is where I grew up. It is a magical little town just 100km south of Rome where you can do anything you want:from hiking to diving to taste some real Italian foodies! You are surrounded by the sea and immersed in the forests of our National Park! if you go to Rome, you cannot miss spending a day here
