Ruby Segal, an illustration student at MCAD grew up in Excelsior, Minnesota right next door to the beautiful Lake Minnetonka. Just one of Minnesota's 10,000+ lakes, Lake Minnetonka boasts wonderful lakeside attractions, acts as a home for many outdoor activities, and has a long and colorful history as Minnesota's premier vacation destination!
This map was made for a course at MCAD called "Illustration Topics."I chose to illustrate the state of Arizona for my location. I was most drawn to the warm yellows, pinks and reds of the desert landscape - something I'm missing especially lately, now that winter weather's settling in!
One of the most beautiful countries I've been was Iceland. Happy to have visited twice and was able to drive around the country. The Diamond beach was the most beautiful place I've ever seen. With the sunset as a backdrop, it was the most breathtaking view!
I was shopping for plants and by accident stumbled upon a whole moon series of sedums: Harvest Moon, Blue Moon, Over The Moon, Moonglow, etc. Then I remembered that I have Solar Eclipse heucherella in my garden (other varieties are Solar Power and Solar Flare). I think you can see where I'm going with this! The bees love all of these plants, so when my bee landed on the Over The Moon sedum, he planted an i.d. tag in lieu of a flag so that the other bees could locate it, too. Such a helpful little bee!
Admittedly no comparison to the AT, but still: 7 possibilities to hike across Switzerland. From the pilgrim trail to the Alpine Passes Trail, which leads through high alpine regions and over glaciers - there is something for everyone. Interested? Since I had to cancel all my travelling abroad plans this year, I am doing a lot of hiking in my country. This is the fabulous views you get when hiking my favourite valley: Val di Muggio. It's the southernmost valley in Switzerland: wild, unspoiled + full of history. On clear days, you can see Monte Rosa + the Matterhorn.
The moon phases as well its position in relation to the different zodiac signs has an affect on the plants´ growth. There are four elements - earth, water, air and fire, that correspond to the zodiac signs. Each of these elements is responsible for the best crop of different kinds of plants, so there is a different day for planting and gardening each of them. In the illustration you can see the relation between the moon, zodiac signs and the plants for each phase.
Pokhara city, Nepal’s 2nd largest city, by Phewa lake on the foothills of the Annapurna range, is the tourism capital of Nepal and serves as a base for trekking in the Annapurna region. From stunning views of the entire Annapurna range, visiting the international mountain museum, boating at Phewa lake & paragliding at Sarangkot are a few things to do in the mountain city, other than relishing Nepali food. This view is from Raniban hill next to Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda) that overlooks the Himalayan peaks and Pokhara city below.
When my daughter was 6 we were looking for something to occupy our evenings. She had her brother's old (think vintage) telescope but we had no way of know what we were looking at. With a quick google search I found several apps that would help us identify the twinkling dots above. We were enthralled by the new discoveries and would stay up later and later to watch Mars appear over the horizon or catch the ISS zoom pass. It was a wonderful mother daughter bonding experience as she was allowed to stay up late and handle my phone as we panned the night sky from a near by field. Then we'd walk home hand in hand talking about what we'd seen. Even now we still keep an ear out for any exciting developments like the SpaceX zooming pass or NEOWISE comet ( which we both saw) It was a very special time and one I'll always treasure.
Domkhar is a small village in Domkhar valley about 120 kilometres away from Leh. Surrounded by harsh rocky towering mountains the Rock Art Heritage Sanctuary is by the Indus river where most of the art is on the rocks, and one of the richest sites of rock art in Ladakh. The prehistoric Rock Art paintings are some of the earliest expressions of our species, our artistic and cultural beginnings!
