This is a map 'depicting' one of my favourite vacations ever! We spent 4 days & 3 nights aboard a Maine Windjammer, the Stephen Taber 1871. It was a dream come true, and far exceeded our expectations; to wake up in your cosy cabin and smell the wood fire from the cookstove, and the food...oh my...gourmet dining & fine wines on the seas! A small crew & group of travellers, what a wonderful time, we were the only Canadians aboard, but made ever so welcome by our fellow American travellers! No electronics, just the sea, scenery, sights & sounds, occasional boat races. A surprise night of kettledrum music & partying ashore, fishing villages visited, during the day! It was heart-breaking to have to leave. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend this boat for a 3, 4 or 6 day cruise! not for the faint of heart, you really are stepping back in time! The vacation that "DNS- as Captain Noah said, "does not suck".
Spend a day in the historic center of Macau! I always love ancient and historical buildings and Macau Peninsula has so many of them. This illustration highlights which buildings I've visited, and most of them are within walking distance.
The Harz mountains are the highest elevation in Northern Germany and they're a region of fairy tales, wild animals and lots of forests. The Harz national park is great for hiking, biking, or sightseeing. Here are some of my favorite places to visit.
This is based on a book by my GGGrandfather Edwin Rainbow. He was a journalist, author and Registrar of Birth and Deaths in Coventry, UK at the turn of the last century. He wrote this book in 1916 as a turn by turn description of several walks through his (and my) home city. It's like a time capsule as he describes elegant tree-lined avenues, the tram system and industries of the time. Most of the city was destroyed in WWII and it's fascinating to read what's still there and what's long forgotten.
