I love to bike ride through Crissy Field. It is definitely one of my happy places. I love the plentiful, free parking. I love rolling down the bright green grassy hills with my kids. I love visiting The Warming Hut Bookstore & Cafe, waving to the seabirds at Torpedo Wharf, and then hitting the San Francisco Bay Trail on a bicycle.
My Happy Place is the UC Davis Arboretum which is about 100 acres of horticultural paradise.
It brings me such peace and happiness to meander through it, taking in all the sounds, smells and glorious sights.
Each season presents new floral delights and even some migrating birds!
I treasure this natural space and continue to be grateful for all the gifts I receive from it!
A day spent hiking by a lake in Maine is where I am happiest. The sighting of wildlife and the Jordan Pond House popovers with blueberry tea on the lawn at the end of the day is the icing on my happy place cake.
My happy place is outdoors, and there are amazing places to hike all over the Lake Michigan/Indiana Dunes area where I live. Just blocks from my house I'm lucky to have a bike path that winds through a small wetland area alive with migratory birds, butterflies, other insects, and native plants. It's a calming, centering part of my day to walk this path and observe the changes throughout the year. On my daily walks I've added new species to my bird life list, run into friends, and improved my fitness level. All of which make me, well... HAPPY!
Being surrounded by nature is what makes me happy. I love biking around Sherbrooke exploring its woods, where I encounter lovely companions: from the small and colourful blue jay to a gigantic moose wandering nearby.
Here’s another one of my happy places of late ... it has everything I love: nature, water, walking trails, places to eat and drink! You can even walk to the edge of the water and put your feet in or go on a cruise and have lunch. Best of all is the kiss statue called “Unconditional Surrender” which portrays a sailor who has come home after victory in World War II kissing a nurse and is based on a famous photo taken of the real life pair - so romantic!
My happy place are my shoes. Right now it is this pair of sneakers which are my choice companions for most of my walks. I love to walk, and it doesn‘t matter if it is a city I explore on vacation, or if I go on my daily walks at home. There is always so much to explore and discover and see. Walking connects me with the world around me and brings everything into perspective. Usually I come home bright eyed, happy and full of energy and ideas. Even on the days I started out with aches or a bad mood. After the walk everything is better. This prompt was a great reminder to finally pay hommage to my shoes and give them a little backdrop of the things we explored together.
At the world’s only botanical garden dedicated to the display and study of epiphytic orchids, bromeliads, gesneriads and ferns, and other tropical plants, I learn so much about Florida gardening and see all the happy plants that are well cared for here! All of the colors, greenery, scents, sounds, and lush atmosphere fill me with joy. For me, there’s no better place to be outside than in a garden, and this is my garden away from my garden.
