My cousin Kirsten and I meet for breakfast about every three weeks. For years, we went to the same two or three places. About two years ago, we decided that we would try a new restaurant every time we went to breakfast. This map is a record of the restaurants we tried out in the past two years. The limiting factor (being Los Angeles) was traffic, so we mostly went places between our two houses in the west end of the San Fernando Valley.
Clinton Hill is a treelined Brooklyn neighborhood where artists, writers, makers, students and creatives have lived throughout history, and continue to make their marks today. Spaces for creating, thinking, and collaborating dot the map, creating an atmosphere that's ever-evolving against a backdrop of historic brick row houses and brownstones.
My map depicts the many cafes and community spaces that celebrate the arts, and even a few places that do both (like the women-run Relationships cafe and Playground Coffee Shop). There's imaginative spaces where you can sip coffee surrounded by modern art, places that imagine a more intentionally-designed food system, shops with vintage clothing and furniture, destinations for modern art and music, and even a few historic (maybe unofficial) arts landmarks. It's a special place that has fueled my creativity for years, and I hope you'll find some inspiration here, too.
This place is special to me because of all the fun times I have experienced with friends here. Harvard Ave is bustling with food, thrift shopping, markets, furniture stores and beauty salons. When ever me and the girls want to get together for some quality time together we all meet up here and spend hours just walking around. Some of my favorite places are marked on this map and if you find yourself in Boston I highly recommend stopping by!
This place is special to me because I used to come here for vacations when I was a child and now I get to live here. Portsmouth exudes an enchanting, magical quality that is rooted in it’s historic and seafaring past and is elevated by the current artistic and culinary community.
This place is special to me because these are all of my favorite hiding spots during the cold months of winter. My map is filled with some of my very favorite comfort foods and places to stop for a tea or coffee. I also like visiting the botanical center or Jordan's Jungles so I can start dreaming of spring and what I will plant in my garden.
This place is special to me because...I just moved to Austin this summer, so it's my new neighborhood that I have enjoyed exploring through food. These are a few of my favorite breakfast spots in downtown Austin. Here it's Tacos over Burritos in the morning, and I have to say the Migas at VeraCruz are the best! My favorite trendy, chill and work places are on the west side, along with some great diners. But, the absolute best place is a bit north of downtown so I had to squeeze it in - Bird Bird Biscuit. It is worth the extra drive - get the fresh fried Queen Beak sandwich it's the best in town!
This place is special to me because I grew up in Kragujevac and a few years ago I returned to my hometown to finish my university degree. Like most people from small towns, I too, was itching to move as soon as possible, get out there and see the world. I'm not saying I've changed, but I've started to appreciate this place more over time, people who live here, it's history. It is said that the town got its name after a bird, a type of raven or an eagle, that's been living in these areas for centuries - kraguj. And if you were to visit for a day, here are a few places to stop by. (:
This place is special to me because Portsmouth NH is my hometown, even though I spent half my life moving around the country. I finally did move back, and just about every morning I have the privilege of walking through this picturesque and historic neighborhood, which is the south end of the city alongside the Piscataqua River.
This place is special to me because it holds the perfect harmony of the old and the new, and it’s the place I call home nowadays. I have been living in Madrid for a decade, and this is one of my favourite neighbourhoods. Bubbling with life at any time of the day and night it’s a place where you can find the trendiest people and places. Art exists inside galleries and museums but also in the streets, hip bars, pubs and cafes. My favourite thing are the contrast: the little old grocery shop next to the latest design shop, the bar that has been serving people for a 100 years (true story) packed with the trendiest crowd... If you’re into shopping here you will find the best vintage shops, and the newest design too. I have listed my favourite places in the area so you can have a complete day exploring: you can see art, grab a coffee, go shopping, have a bite, a drink and even dance all night.
I've visited Japan many times and I know I will keep going back! There's so much to see and every trip I feel I've discovered something new. One of my favorite places to go is Harajuku. It's so bright and colorful, and you can always find new trends in clothes, art and even food. Yet within the hustle and bustle of crowded streets, you will stumble upon pockets of peace.
