My hand drawn memory map of a great day spent walking the historical cobblestones of Salem, Ma. It was a fun-filled day, with tons of walking, exploring, and just taking in the sights! The “witch” history was definitely explored, I loved the history, and the Peabody Essex museum was a highlight! a room full of “figureheads” in all their glory in front of huge domed alcoves...beautiful! I just loved the city, and the best lobster roll ever at the Lobster Shanty! I even threw in the Devils Run, because I hope to run it someday. A beautiful, historical, whimsical city core, I would definitely visit again.
The weather was perfect for me, hot & humid, with a salty breeze to cool you off, I hope my map captures the fun & historical atmosphere of this wonderful city!
Dali is a small city in the Yunnan province in the South west of China. It has a beautiful old town with traditional architecture and beautiful scenery. It's a relaxing destination to enjoy traditional Chinese cuisine, pu'er tea and buy handicrafts and various local products.
The Cinque Terre, (Five Lands) is a rugged portion of coast on the Ligurian Sea. So called because comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. The surrounded land and the villages are National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the past was possible to reach the villages only by boat, from the harbors of La Spezia and Portovenere.
I remember this coast as a paradise in the fifties, when the coast road was not yet built. Now the property speculation has changed the natural habitat ; more money, less beauties, less quiet and less happiness ! For respect of the past memories, the signes and the names are written in local dialect.
A map of another of my favourite motorcycle routes, through the rural Ottawa Valley. I’m freezing here in winter & dreaming of hot summer days, and we are blessed to have some fine craft breweries that feature fine food, and a couple of great music venues to finish up the day! Not to worry, just a taste of the brew, never ride or drive under the influence, but it feels great to sit on a patio and sip a cold beverage! after riding on the roads beside the rivers, smelling that fresh air, and taking in the scenery! and then, taking in some live music at one of the local venues! This map combines all the things I LOVE about Summer...can’t wait for its’ return! This is my first digital map, done using procreate!
This is a line drawing of Wrightwood, California, a mountain resort town located just above Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Mountains. I created this map using a combination of my hand-drawn art, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop. Wrightwood is a wonderful day trip for any visitor to California. In the winter, you can ski at Mountain High. In the summer, you can go zip lining at Pacific Crest Ziplines or hike the Pacific Crest Trail. There are many mom-and-pop restaurants to choose from, ranging from the elegant steak house, Blue Ridge Inn, to more casual fare like burgers at The Yodeler, pizza at Mile High Pizza, or tacos and tequila at Mexico Lindo. The Evergreen Cafe is known for its homestyle breakfasts. Village Grind is known for its wine bar and live music, or you can sit out on the patio and enjoy craft beers at the Wrightwood Brewery.
This map was inspired not only by the movie, but I had stumbled on information that Susan's house was not a fictional place, but a real house here on Long Island. My husband and I took a ride and there it was, the only difference was there was an addition upstairs. I didn't put the addition in my sketch. I actually forgot it because it is in the middle of the roof, so my drawing of the house is mix of 1946 and 2017. It was awesome, all of those years seeing that scene in the movie and when we drove down the street, it was like going back in time. I couldn't nail down the Walkers apartment nor the Brooks Retirement home, so those are guesses on the map based on location information gleaned from watching the movie several times. Those are the two locations marked as "fictional."
Season's Greetings and Happy New Year!
