In May 2019 Victor Vescovo broke the world record for deep diving. He descended 10,952 meters in his submersible. He saw amazing stuff over there. But he also found that plastic actually beat him in getting to the deepest parts of the oceans. How sad.
It's set in a video game where you earn points by collecting objects and defeating monsters, and to win you need to reach your virus-free home.
We were wearing down the treads of our shoes and psyches from walking in our neighborhood. A recent social media post about a labyrinth from a friend forced us to change - or escape - our scenery. We took our shoes and our psyches on a trek to find the mythical labyrinth. We found it on our third trip to the park. Three is a charm.
This has to be the longest trip I've ever done! Going from Nicaragua to Australia is quite a long way. My flight plan was initially to go from Managua to Dallas for a 1 night stop-over before heading to Australia. But 12 hours before departure I was notified that the flight was cancelled and that I had to find another way to get to Dallas... That can be challenging when you're in Nicaragua! I managed to get the airline to find me another flight as I had already booked another plane ticket from Dallas to Sydney the next day and they finally booked me on a flight to Miami and then from there to Dallas! The entire trip took me from Managua, to Miami, to Dallas, to Los Angeles and to Sydney and lasted 3 days! You can't imagine how happy I was to finally land and enjoy the sound of the cockatoos and to stroll along the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk.
This is a road trip across France over 3 days I did last year. I drove from Evian in the French Alps to Castets almost on the West Coast of France to house-sit for 2.5 months in a typical house lost in the middle of a pine forest.I love road trips! I never get bored on the road, I can just stare all day at the landscapes changing along the way. On this occasion I left the mountains, drove by ancient volcanoes, through agricultural lands and wineries to end in the Landes forest near the Atlantic ocean and its long and wild beaches. It was great to experience the different landscapes of my own country and it makes me want to visit more of it and get lost in the small roads in the countryside.
12 days, almost a full circle around the coast, active volcanoes, great beaches, amazing architecture, and most importantly, delicious food!
After a month of quarantine I finally managed to commemorate my latest holiday. I've been collecting and admiring map illustrations for ages and I thought isolation is the perfect time to give it a go myself while exploring watercolor as a medium. Big thanks for all contributors here for the inspiration!
*The map is a bit distorted, with the island slightly squeezed on the north-south axis to better fit the layout, thus the lack of scale indication. The yellow dots illustrate either overnight stays or important day trips/transits.
A couple years ago I was lucky to travel on the Gotthard Panorama Express scenic train across the alps with my family. This really is a must-do trip in Switzerland and I just wanted to pay a little tribute to these great memories. Plus this was an excuse to try new techniques and to draw trains.
