"The New-England Boy's Song about Thanksgiving Day" was written by Lydia Maria Child in 1844 for a collection called "Flowers for Children, Volume 2." We know this poem by the popular name "Over the River and through the Woods." Music was written to go along with the poem and it is a common holiday song heard during Thanksgiving and the holiday season. The words were changed to say that the children were going to Grandmother's house when in fact it is Grandfather's house in the poem. Either way, it is a warm way to welcome the holiday season.
Spend a day in the historic center of Macau! I always love ancient and historical buildings and Macau Peninsula has so many of them. This illustration highlights which buildings I've visited, and most of them are within walking distance.
This year's part-shade container garden is brought to you by a Mother's Day gift of eight bags of Sea Soil, some West Coast Seeds (and some saved seeds), and Mother Nature. I included several highlights from various sketches made throughout the growing season. Amazingly, there is enough food elsewhere in the creek for the squirrels that they leave my humble crop of beans, greens, and tomatoes alone. After two years of observing the local conditions and critters, I am still experimenting and learning what works in this garden.
