I watched our bouvier, Ferris from my upstairs, studio window last week, playing in the backyard, amusing himself & just thought it would make a great map! We can’t always travel afar, but we can appreciate where we are, and make the best of what we have, and I certainly saw him doing that! lessons learned from our dog! he’s happy chasing his ball, or chewing on one of his many bones, or just rolling in the snow! He gets a big run everyday, and sometimes runs with me, but he’s just as happy in his yard! and he loves the snow! Hand-drawn & hand-lettered map, in ink & watercolours, our backyard. He’s such a great fella, full of life and always makes us laugh, he certainly can teach you to embrace life fully! I had a lot of fun with this map! and illustrating his busy day! no need to explain the yellow snow!
And I don’t mean tropical! A favourite vacation area, I think we’ve visited here at least 18 times, and it’s always as wonderful as the first visit! If you love & appreciate nature, this us the place to go! Driving the Cabot Trail is a must, and I recommend doing it clockwise & counter-clockwise, the vistas are outstanding! I love exploring Cheticamp Island, and cycling through the cows, watching the cormorants, treking to the sea’s edge, and watching the tolling waves! There is lots of hiking, a beautiful National Park for camping, fresh air & salty seas! We had the once in a lifetime pleasure of being joined on an afternoon kayaking expedition by a pod of pilot whales!
Celtic music & mountins, it’s one of the most beautiful spots in Canada, if you like remote this is the spot & seafood & welcoming islanders, who could say no to that? If you want shopping malls and box stores however, this is not the place for you! this hand-drawn map is just a taste of the beauty & history that awaits you in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia🧜🏼♀️
My hand drawn memory map of a great day spent walking the historical cobblestones of Salem, Ma. It was a fun-filled day, with tons of walking, exploring, and just taking in the sights! The “witch” history was definitely explored, I loved the history, and the Peabody Essex museum was a highlight! a room full of “figureheads” in all their glory in front of huge domed alcoves...beautiful! I just loved the city, and the best lobster roll ever at the Lobster Shanty! I even threw in the Devils Run, because I hope to run it someday. A beautiful, historical, whimsical city core, I would definitely visit again.
The weather was perfect for me, hot & humid, with a salty breeze to cool you off, I hope my map captures the fun & historical atmosphere of this wonderful city!
A map of another of my favourite motorcycle routes, through the rural Ottawa Valley. I’m freezing here in winter & dreaming of hot summer days, and we are blessed to have some fine craft breweries that feature fine food, and a couple of great music venues to finish up the day! Not to worry, just a taste of the brew, never ride or drive under the influence, but it feels great to sit on a patio and sip a cold beverage! after riding on the roads beside the rivers, smelling that fresh air, and taking in the scenery! and then, taking in some live music at one of the local venues! This map combines all the things I LOVE about Summer...can’t wait for its’ return! This is my first digital map, done using procreate!
This is a map 'depicting' one of my favourite vacations ever! We spent 4 days & 3 nights aboard a Maine Windjammer, the Stephen Taber 1871. It was a dream come true, and far exceeded our expectations; to wake up in your cosy cabin and smell the wood fire from the cookstove, and the food...oh my...gourmet dining & fine wines on the seas! A small crew & group of travellers, what a wonderful time, we were the only Canadians aboard, but made ever so welcome by our fellow American travellers! No electronics, just the sea, scenery, sights & sounds, occasional boat races. A surprise night of kettledrum music & partying ashore, fishing villages visited, during the day! It was heart-breaking to have to leave. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend this boat for a 3, 4 or 6 day cruise! not for the faint of heart, you really are stepping back in time! The vacation that "DNS- as Captain Noah said, "does not suck".
I was lucky enough to have a great friend, that won a weekend in NYC and took me with her, and this map is a 'flashback' to that great weekend! I could never thank her enough!! It was a first for both of us, and we crammed as much into those 3 days & 3 nights as humanly possible!! and I tried to put the 'high-lights' of that magical weekend into this map! We covered a lot of ground in 3 days, lots of walking...got the key sites in...lots of laughs & great memories made! I left the background white, because I thought the story was 'colourful' enough for such a colourful city! (and the feet featured at 30 Rockefeller & Battery Park...yeah, those were our selfies!)
A map of one of my favourite local motorcycle routes. Not an exotic island, but lots of wonderful sights & smells! I love exploring rural roads, rolling hills & lots of winding roads, which are great fun on a motorcycle! Then toss in the smell of fresh cut hay, rivers & lakes and wood-fires on chilly mornings or evenings, it's one of my favourite routes! I'm very fortunate to step out my door, onto my bike and within 10 minutes, I'm riding some great rural fun roads!
Visited this amazing piece of 'heaven on earth' last summer for the first time...went all out, took a cruise from Montreal, then spent a week (which was not enough time) exploring this treasure. If you want sandy beaches, and warm water, and great seafood..oh my this is the place...you can literally walk for miles on sandy, squeaking, singing beaches!! These are French islands, and the culture, the food, the sights are outstanding. I think this is the greatest place in Canada, and I've been coast to coast a few times!! You can only get here by plane or ferry/cruise!! it's that isolated, but soooooooooo worth it!
