This map/illustration will take you to all the exciting places & curious experiences of Mumbai, like wading through the crowds for the local train, VadaPav stalls (street food), Victoria Chariot rides with the "Taj"as the backdrop, cycling escapades to south Mumbai-admiring the Victorian architecture around, sunset at marine drive after a heavy unlimited salad meal at Candies. Going to Liberty theater just to see the "Art Deco" interiors instead of a film. Ogling at our favorite band at blue frog, but the best memory was watching the mono rail test runs from our house balcony, topping it with a house party. Mumbai is truly the city that throbs with mayhem & pulsates with energy.
This Map/illustration highlights the cultural art & crafts, from Kutch (the village) to Bhuj (the city). Kutch is a spot of colour in the vast dessert. The scattered mud houses (Bhunga) is a treasure trove inside, with its shimmering mud & mirror art, hand crafted colourful rugs & the hospitable inhabitants. The funky mud walls, colourful kite/fabric ceiling at Shaam-e-Sarhad resort & the moon rise at the white salt dessert are not to be missed. The old palace ruins in Bhuj is an architectural treat. Lastly the Hunnarshala (NGO- involved low cost housing techniques after the earth quake) with its beautiful braided thatched roof and mud houses are an inspiration.
A map illustrating “the mysterious Auroville”, with its curious sights & unique architecture, unlike any other place in India. Sights- The Matri Mandir (temple) blazing like the summer sun with its gleaming energy falling upon the distant mediators under the great banyan tree. The offbeat path from the youth centre, surrounded by fallen cyclone trees leading to the raw tree houses with the hippie love car road divider. Curious architecture- space ship Auro Model houses, Roger Anger's abandoned school, the art school. Memories- fish pedicure at Verite, Sleeping at the open roofed hut at Reve under the stars & constantly loosing my way along the winding mud roads at night.
This is a map through memory lane, illustrating the most prominent sights & experiences between work - (Panjim- Goa), home (Porvorim) & travel (old Goa Churches, lazy beaches & Aguada fort). The best memories include long scooter rides by the Vagator beach road, after office gossip session at the Panjim river front, my Porvorim house, a sanctuary for insects in the monsoons, where my room-mate's doted over our little rescued cat Mimi and the most mysterious of all the "River Princess" ship wreck at the Candolim beach (2000-2013). The colour full buildings & the white Panjim church will forever live in my mind.
