Hong Kong, HK
Another of my favourite places in Hong Kong. One of the city's quirkiest modes of transport is the Central - Mid-levels Escalator, built as a connection between the financial district and residential areas further up the hillside.
From its starting point on Queen's Road Central, the escalator snakes its way through one of Hong Kong's oldest and most interesting neighbourhoods - an eclectic blend of wet markets, colonial structures, hip restaurants, watering holes and art galleries. Like the city as a whole, it keeps a precarious balance between age-old tradition and unashamed modernity.
Japan is a fascinating place. It has everything - islands, forests, mountains, volcanoes, rivers and lakes... This map explores just some of the geography of the country. Often the initial image 'Japan' conjures up is of a megacity like Tokyo, but we should not forget the beautiful landscape that covers over 2/3 of the country.

Daisetsuzan (also called Taisetsuzan) National Park is located in the mountainous center of the northern Japanese island of Hokkaidō. At 2267.64 square kilometers, Daisetsuzan is the largest national park in Japan. The Japanese name means "great snowy mountains," and it is often called "the roof of Hokkaido." But the name the indigenous Ainu gave these mountains is "the playground of the gods."
I have travelled extensively in Italy during my one year stay as a grad student in design in Florence. I am back to India now but ever since i have been in love with Florence. The map of Florence is etched emotionally on my heart and mind. This is my tribute to this place which welcomed me so warmly and made me the person I am today. I will keep going back to this place throughout my life. Thank you for giving me this opportunity for paying my tribute.
The top border on my map, with the long "He. .. e. . .y" refers to the extended note that is sung at the beginning of many Gujarati folksongs (similar to yodeling.) The lower border consists of mini-versions of "rangoli" -- a design made of colored sand that is drawn on the ground before the front door of the home by Gujarati women, to welcome guests.
Ipswich is the best place to live or visit! We welcome 4 seasons with all their beauty and rage! We have coastal panoramic views. With more first period houses than any other town in the US, we are full of history and charm! Come Visit! My entry is watercolor and ink... hope you love it!
Ahmedabad, known to the locals as "Amdavad," is located in The state of Gujarat in western India. The borders of my map are inspired by the embroidery/patchwork/mirrorwork that the area is famous for, and the stick-figure people and animals are references to "Warli art" which is practised by the tribal people of western India.
